We would like to respond to the announcement of the Political Union “Girchi” regarding the so-called Marijuana Festival.
According to the legislation of Georgia, possession, use, trade, distribution, production and promotion of narcotic drugs is punishable. Considering the amount of drugs, the administrative and criminal liability is defined for such activities. The organized trade of narcotic drugs is punishable by the criminal law, as well.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia considers the statement of “Girchi” as a criminal intention, encouraging the citizens to participate in illegal activities and commit crime.
We remind the society that fight against the illegal distribution of drug substances is one of the main priorities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia. Hence, it is a duty of police to enforce law and prevent illegal activities.
Consequently, in regards to the statement of “Girchi”, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia launched an investigation under the 2nd and 8th paragraphs of 2731 article of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
Besides, if such illegal activities as possession, use, trade, distribution, production and promotion of narcotic drugs takes place during the so-called Festival, police will take strict measures against all offenders in compliance with the legislation of Georgia.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs calls on the society to refrain from such provocative statements in the future.
