Under the initiative of the MIA Academy and with the support of European Council TAIEX (Technical Assistance and Information Exchange Instrument), two-day conference was held in Tbilisi on the topic of- “Role of Psychology in the Assessment and the Prevention of Crime”
The conference was opened by the rector of MIA Academy Givi Mikanadze and EU representative Vincent Rey. Along with psychologists from a number of countries, forensic experts in the field of psychology from Great Britain, Sweden, Norway and Netherlands also took part.
The aim of the conference was to share experience of the forensic experts and psychologists with the aim of crime prevention and boosting of qualification. Participants of the conference presented results reached in their researches and discussed role of psychology in the Georgian law enforcement system, psycho-social characteristics of homicide offenders and actions defined for prevention, psycho-social risk factors of juvenile offenders, psycho-social characteristics of robbery and their role in crime prevention.
Within the frames of conference, a working group was set up, whose members will work on different types of crime prevention policies. A number of Surveys have also been held, focused on the different categories of crime associated with the psycho-social risk factors for crime prevention measures and the identification of their use.
Participants of the conference visited MIA Academy where they got acquainted with the study process and were shown infrastructure. Foreign experts gave high evaluation to the projects implemented at the academy and expressed eagerness to introduce them to their countries.
