Under the initiative of the Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Mgebrishvili, the agency launched large-scale social campaign against domestic violence “Power to Trust”.
The campaign is held within the frames of the EU-funded project “Facilitation of MIA in the Fight against Domestic Violence”. The campaign is aimed to promote the prevention of domestic violence and raise the awareness of people on existing legal mechanisms, state and other services against the mentioned crime.
“Fight against domestic violence still remains one of the top priorities for the Ministry of Internal Affairs. However, it should also be taken into consideration that assistance, support and cooperation of victims and witnesses of domestic violence are key necessities for the police officer in fulfilling his duties in relation to such a sensitive problem. I would like to address all victims: Do not be silent with regards to domestic violence! Do not be afraid! Our entire agency with 40 000 employees, stand beside you for ensuring your protection!”-stated Minister of Internal Affairs.
At the social campaign presentation, preventive measures against domestic violence held by the Ministry and progress achieved in this direction were discussed. It was pointed out that on the one hand the awareness raising and proper qualification of MIA employees on the other, stipulated unprecedented high index of the restraint orders issued on the cases of domestic violence.
The event was attended by the high-rank officials of the Ministry, government agencies, representatives of EU delegation, non-governmental organizations profiling in domestic violence, journalists and victims of the mentioned crime, who told their life stories to the invited guests and ways of handling it with the assistance of the police officers.
Giorgi Mgebrishvili awarded 5 employees from different MIA units with certificates of appreciation for the contribution to the fight against domestic violence. Members of special jury also revealed 3 winners of the contest –“Newspaper Article on Domestic Violence” who received prizes.
At the end of the presentation participants of the event and attending guests left their signatures on a special billboard with an imprinted logo of the campaign and thus, joined MIA-launched social campaign.
