The task of the Ministry of Internal Affairs is to maintain rule of law and ensure that elections are held in free, democratic and secure environment. Each employee of the agency attaches significant responsibility to fulfilling of this task and makes rapid response to every single incident.
The Ministry will not allow the election process to develop in a violent scenario and make tough response on the fact of each violation.
The officers of Kvemo Kartli Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs along with the General Prosecutor’s Office, arrested 4 persons in connection with the cases of violence, that took place on September 27, in Nakhiduri village, Bolnisi municipality and Marneuli on September 29 of the recent year.
Based on the decision of the Judge, in connection with the fact of violence that took place in Marneuli on September 29, the activist (born in 1987) of “Georgian Dream” political party and head of LTD “Marneuli Auto Park” of Marneuli municipality (born in 1977) have been detained, who subjected “United National Movement” activists to violence and physically assaulted them.
The “United National Movement” activist (born in 1986) has also been detained based on the decision of the Judge, for violence exercised against “Georgian Dream” activists in Nakhiduri village, Bolnisi municipality. The mentioned person inflicted health damage with a blunt object to the supporters of “Georgian Dream” political party.
On the basis of the relevant arrest warrant issued by the Judge, Member of the “United National Movement” (born in 1989) was also detained on the fact of violence that took place inside the building where election commission is stationed, during the incident detainee physically assaulted member of the election commission.
The crime committed by detainees envisages up to 2 years of imprisonment.
Ministry of Internal Affairs would like to express its readiness to cooperate with all interested agencies, including the Public Defender, non-governmental and international organizations, aiming to ensure conduction of Parliamentary Elections in secure and free environment throughout the country, which will contribute to maintaining high level of democracy in the electoral process.
Ministry of Internal Affairs would like to call on political party representatives and their supporters to refrain from violent actions to ensure that elections are held in a peaceful, democratic and secure environment. Otherwise, each offender will be faced to criminal liability regardless of their political affiliations.
