Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Mgebrishvili visited Telavi Central hospital to see the wounded patrol police officer Maia Javakhishvili who was injured earlier today during the incident in Telavi. Minister got familiarized with the current condition of health of the officer.
“It’s hard for me to make comment on what happened. You already know that our officer was killed while another is fighting for life. I would like to ask all journalists to abstain from spreading unconfirmed information and not to mislead society. According to some sources offender broke into police building and opened fire from the automatic weapon, which is not true. The shot was made from the outside territory with a hunting rifle and not from the yard of the police building. Detainee’s house and police building are located next to each other and separated with a fence. The shot was made from detainee’s yard. According to preliminary information detainee has certain mental problems – stated Minister Mgebrishvili.
Minister of Internal Affairs also provided answers to the questions of the media representatives on the supposed motive of the crime. He stated that detainee had no motive or other circumstance which would have prompted him to commit such action. “We will do everything to save life of other officer for whom we have already transported the crew of medics”- stated Minister Giorgi Mgebrishvili.
