The delegation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia is participating in the European Police Chiefs annual Convention taking place in the Hague. Director of the International Relations Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, Mr. Shalva Kvinikhidze and the Director of the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, Mr. Ivane Papiashvili are participating in the European Police Chiefs annual Convention taking place in the Hague.
The program of the meeting envisages discussion of mutual challenges facing EU and its partner countries. It is the first time Georgian delegation is invited to participate in this format of meeting. It is worth mentioning, that the process of conclusion of Strategic and Operational Cooperation Agreement has started between Europol and Georgia. The agreement will facilitate cooperation in law enforcement with Europol member countries.
In accordance with the agenda of the meeting, Georgian delegation held a meeting with the Deputy Director of the Governance Department of Europol, Mr. Oldrich Martinu and bilateral meetings with the heads of the delgations of the following countries: Kingdom of Sweden, Republic of Italy, Republic of Portugal, Republic of Poland and the U.S.
The parties underlined continuous positive trend of increased level of cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of the EU Members States and Georgia in recent years. Accomplished and ongoing activities within the framework of mutual cooperation together with future challenges were also discussed during the bilaeral meetings.
It is noteworthy, that until present, Georgia has signed international agreements/MoUs on cooperation in the fight against crime with 14 EU Member States. It is also planned to sign similar agreements with other Member States.
