Foundation of the administrative building was laid in the territory of Lilo Cynology Center of the Border Police, the MIA. Ceremony of putting the capsule in the foundation was attended by Mr. Giorgi Mghebrishvili, the Minister of Internal Affairs and Mr. Ian Kelly, the Ambassador of the United States to Georgia. The capsule symbolically contained the medallions of the Border Police of the MIA and the US Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA).
Mr. Giorgi Mgebrishvili, the Minister noted in his speech: "A new project initiated in the Border Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia shall be one step forward to the country’s western standards harmonization process. At this stage the Defense Threat Reduction Agency commences its active support the Border Police in the process of development of the Georgian state land border which shall move the cooperation between the agencies to a new stage. Today the foundation of the administrative building of the Border Police Cynology Center of the MIA will be laid; this will significantly contribute to the security of the state border, which is one of the main priorities in the process of Euro-Atlantic integration of the Government of Georgia and the Ministry of the Internal Affairs”.
The project is implemented by the US Defense Department's Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) and aims at capacity building of the Border Police and the security of the state land border.
In the near future it is planned to carry out a variety of infrastructure projects, including sectors construction, reconstruction of the open-air cages, arrangement of the observing systems and provision of appropriate technical equipment. The MIA Border Police will be delivered the technical equipment and vehicles.
Following the important maritime infrastructure projects, this is the first project, which is carried out by the DTRA with the purpose to develop the Georgian state land border.
