Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Mgebrishvili along with US Ambassador Ian Kelly opened Command and Control Center on Georgian- Armenian state border “Sadakhlo”.
The opening ceremony was attended by Cooperative Threat Reduction department director at United States Defense Threat Reduction (DTRA) Elisabeth George, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Zurab Gamezardashvili, representatives of the US embassy in Georgia and other invited guests.
“Today we, with the support of DTRA have just opened Command and Control Center. The center is a unique project which will be provided with the technical support by the State Security Agency. This is the first case, that this type of monitoring system has been introduced at the state border. The center is aimed to strengthen border security and improve control which will also contribute to detection and eradication of trans-border crime and illegal migration”-stated Giorgi Mgebrishvili.
Command and Control Center was founded within the frames of DTRA-funded project “Capacity Building of the Green Border”. The project is aimed at enhancing K9 service infrastructure at border sectors and equipping Georgian-Armenian state border sectors with modern video surveillance systems.
