Presentation of the video aiming at prevention of driving under the influence of alcohol held at the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
US Ambassador to Georgia- Kelly Degnan was hosted at the Patrol Police Department by Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs – Giorgi Butkhuzi and Director of Patrol Police Department – Vazha Siradze
Director of Public Safety Command Center “112” - Giorgi Arsoshvili and Deputy Director of Service Agency of the MIA - Imeda Makasarashvili briefed the guests on the projects, legislative amendments and future plans in regard to road safety.
During her speech US Ambassador emphasized the fatal consequences of driving under the influence of alcohol and the importance of public awareness raising on this matter.
The video was created with the support of the US Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Bureau (INL). It aims at raising public awareness as well as strengthening civil responsibility in the direction of road safety.
Ensuring road safety is a priority for the Ministry of Internal Affairs. It is noteworthy that Police plays crucial role in this process by drafting and initiating relevant legislative amendments as well as implementing additional measures to organize and regulate road traffic.
This year, the Parliament of Georgia adopted important legislative amendments and the sanctions for the drivers under alcohol influence have been toughed.
Hereby the amendments to the Law of Georgia on Road Traffic have been approved in accordance with EU-Georgia Association Agreement, which will harmonize Georgian legislation to relevant directives.
In parallel the Ministry of Internal Affairs is continuing capacity building of Patrol Police Department as well as Public Safety Command Center “112” in the direction of regulating road traffic.
