The officers of Samtskhe-Javakheti Police and Special Tasks Departments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, together with Samtskhe-Javakheti District Prosecutor's Office, conducted special operative measures in Borjomi and Rustavi, based on the relevant court decision, as a result of which – L.J. (DoB1982), D.Ts. (DoB1982) and N.Sh. (DoB977) were detained for membership of the “Thieve’s World”.
The officers of Imereti, Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti Police Department, together with the District Prosecutor's Office of Western Georgia, on the basis of the relevant court decision, have detained Russian citizen and criminal authority also the active member of the “Thieves ‘World”- I.D. (DoB 1988) for membership of the “Thieves ‘World” and extortion in especially large amounts.
The committed crimes envision from 7 to 10 years of imprisonment.
The investigation conducted by the Samtskhe-Javakheti Police Department revealed that the persons connected with the “Thieve’s World” - the arrested L.J. And D.Ts. systematically extorted large amounts of cash from the businessman residing in Borjomi municipality. The defendants, using criminal influence, intimidation and threats, intended to fully appropriate the actives of the businessman, as well as confiscated a car belonging to the entrepreneur's son. After the mentioned, the affected entrepreneur, in his turn, contacted the so-called "thieves in law", who evaluated the actions of the extortionists and made a useful decision in favor of the businessman through "criminal skirmish", in particular, charged L.J. and D.T. to return the car to the owner and stop the pressure on the entrepreneur. Execution of the mentioned decision by "thieves' rule" should have been carried out by the accused N.S.
As part of the investigation, the law enforcers, based on the judge's decision, carried out covert investigative actions, including audio recording, which reflected the criminal actions of the accused persons.
Police arrested L.J., and N.Sh. in Borjomi, D.Ts. was arrested in Rustavi on the basis of the relevant court decision. Illegally appropriated vehicle, mobile phones and computer equipment, through which the detainees communicated with each other and other persons with criminal connections, were seized by police as evidence.
As for another defendant, I.D.- arrested by Imereti police, the investigation established that he, as a criminal authority, demanded $ 15,000 in accordance with the rules established in the "thieves' world" and demanded the handover of an expensive vehicle of an entrepreneur living in Kutaisi. - D.Z. who was threatened with physical retribution and loss of life in case of violation of specific deadlines. Due to the mentioned, D.Z. handed over a total of 16,000 GEL to the accused person.
Both cases are being investigated under Article 181, Part 2, Subparagraph “C”, Article 223(1), Part I, and Article 223(4) of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which includes extortion, membership of the "thieves' world" and contacting a member of the "thieves' world".
