Representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs participated in training of trainers dedicated to the rights and communication standard for the persons with disabilities. Two-day training was opened by the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Aleksandre Darakhvelidze, Deputy Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Anna Chernyshova and Senior Adviser for the South Caucasus Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), Vladimir Shkolnikov.
Training aimed at advancing knowledge of representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and developing the right skill-sets for trainers regarding the rights and communication standard for persons with disabilities (PWDs).
It is noteworthy, that the past year, for the first time, Ministry of Internal Affairs approved the 2021 action-plan for the protection of rights of PWDs in the MIA system through which multiple important activities were held. Despite the achieved progress in this direction, Ministry deemed it’s important to make proactive steps, which means equipping the law-enforcement officers with the right knowledge regarding the rights and communication standard with PWDs. Therefore, in 2022 the Ministry set the priority to conduct large-scale trainings in this direction.
The next step of the training of trainers is cascading training, which the Ministry plans to begin in the nearest future. At the first stage, training of Patrol Police Department officers was prioritized. As a result of a cascading trainings, up to 2200 officers will be trained. In the future, it is planned to systematize trainings and encompass different departments of the Ministry as well.
The training was conducted using a training module developed with the support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the South Caucasus Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR). The training module encompassed legal and psychological aspects on therights of PWDs.
It should be mentioned, that the co-presenters in the training of trainers, alongside with the UN agencies’ qualified experts, were members of the current advisory group on the rights of PWDs.
By the end of the training, certificates were awarded to the participants by the Deputy Minister of the Internal Affairs, Aleksandre Darakhvelidze, Deputy Resident Representative of the UNDP Georgia, Anna Chernyshova and the Projects Manager of the UN OHCHR, Sophio Benashvili.
Training was conducted with the support of the UNDP Georgia, and the UN OHCHR through the funds from the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Fund (SDG Fund).
