The Delegation of the European Union and the representatives of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), within the framework of the project “Support to Advancing Technical Capacities for Ensuring Human Security”, implemented by UNOPS, which is part of the wider “EU4 Security, Accountability and Fight Against Crime in Georgia (EU SAFE)” initiative, visited the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia.
Within the framework of the visit, the guests reviewed the technical equipment handed over to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and also held introductory meetings with the heads of the structural units of the Ministry.
In particular, the Head of the EU Delegation - Agata Nieboj and the Head of UNOPS Georgia - Claude-Andre Nadon visited the Public Safety Command Center 112 and the Tbilisi Police, Forensic-Criminalistics and International Relations Departments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, where they got acquainted in detail with the usage and the effectiveness of the equipment procured within the aforementioned SAFE Program.
Within the framework of the meetings, guests were provided with detailed information regarding the activities of the aforementioned structural units, existing challenges and other relevant issues. The heads of the structural units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs expressed their gratitude to the representatives of the European Union and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) for the assistance provided to the institutional development of the Ministry over the years and expressed their readiness for future cooperation.
It should be noted that within the framework of the project, the units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were handed over the following facilities and technical equipment: the children's room was equipped at the Tbilisi Police Department in a way that allows investigators to interview minors in a quiet, stress-free space, free from external factors and psychological pressure; 250 sets of domestic violence kits were handed over to the Public Safety Command Center "112" in order to prevent domestic violence and violence against women by tracking the movement of perpetrators; the Forensic-Criminalistics Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs has been provided with specialized expert equipment and software, through which forensic experts can quickly and efficiently analyze photo and video evidence, as well as conduct a complete examination of drugs and pharmaceuticals.
The project " Support to Advancing Technical Capacities for Ensuring Human Security” under the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) has been implemented in close cooperation with the International Relations Department since 2020 and within its framework, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia has already received high-tech equipment and software. The project is a part of the " EU4 Security, Accountability and Fight Against Crime in Georgia (EU SAFE)" (SAFE) program, which aims to improve the efficiency and accountability of Georgia's security sector.
