The protest taking place on Rustaveli Avenue, in vicinity of the Parliament, went beyond the norms established by the Law on Assembly and Manifestation.
Despite numerous appeals made by the law enforcement officers mobilized to maintain the rule of law on the spot, as well as the official statements of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the members of the manifestation have been verbally and physically abusive towards the police for several hours. Protesters were throwing various objects and pyrotechnics in their direction, as a result, two employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were injured.
Protesters are damaging and setting fire to the infrastructure. It should be noted that a certain part some rally participants moved in the direction of Chichinadze Street, where the mentioned persons damaged the entrance gate of the Parliament.
The society clearly witnessed the violent, illegal actions of the protesters on television.
In order to de-escalate the situation, law enforcement officers resorted to special means defined by the law.
We once again call on the participants of the rally to refrain from illegal actions and follow the instructions of the law enforcement officers. Otherwise, the Ministry of Internal Affairs will act within the framework of its mandate defined by law and will use the measures provided by the legislation of Georgia.
