Main Division of the Border Management and Coordination under the Patrol Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in order to prevent the spreading of the new coronavirus and to offer prompt response on the cases of possible infection, will conduct inspection of passengers arriving from the countries defined as high risk zones by the WHO at the state border crossing checkpoints and registration of information on their accommodation in Georgia.
At this moment, 4 states are defined as high risk countries: China, South Korea, Iran and Italy. Also, citizens of all third countries and the Georgian citizens, who visited in the last two weeks the countries nominated to be high risk zones by the WHO have been identified as a risk group.
Officers of the Main Division of the Border Management and Coordination under the Patrol Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs are working in round-the-clock regime to inspect the citizens entering Georgia from the above mentioned countries, as well as those, staying in the mentioned states for the last two weeks.
Intensive inspection procedures of the passengers are being held at the following border crossing checkpoints: “Red Bridge” “Sadakhklo”, “Sarpi” and “Dariali” as well as at Tbilisi, Batumi and Kutaisi International Airports. In addition, medical staff is constantly on duty in the mentioned points.
In the aforesaid border crossing points, border guards conduct preliminary risk assessment procedures of passengers considering their so called “travel history” and redirect them to the medical staff on shift if necessary.
As for the other border checkpoints, the ambulance is called if border guard assesses the passenger’s health condition to be at a risk. After medical examination the relevant procedures are carried out.
Georgian border crossing checkpoints operate in round-the-clock regime and receive from 25 000 up to 30 000 citizens on a daily basis. For travelers not having visited in the last two weeks the countries officially categorized as a high risk zone, no medical examination will be conducted.
Also, in terms of current situation, with the view of safety of the media representatives, the decision has been made on restriction of free movement of journalists within the border crossing checkpoints.
