First of all, we would like to express our grief over the death of Aleksandre Lashkarava. Our condolences to his family and colleagues.
Due to the high public interest, we would like to inform the public with regards to the investigation launched by the Ministry of Internal Affairs into the death of the cameraman of “TV Pirveli” TV company - Aleksandre Lashkarava.
As we have already stated, the investigation was immediately launched regarding the fact under Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Georgia. Forensic medical examination was appointed with the involvement of independent expert selected by the family.
In parallel with the forensic examination, investigative activities are actively conducted, including interviews of those with whom the deceased had contacted.
We are also studying the video footage of his travel routes, and identify individuals related to the deceased for further interrogation.
Taking into account the interests of the investigation, we would like to request family and friends of the deceased to cooperate with the investigation and provide the authorities with a mobile phone belonging to the deceased, as it may contain important information for the investigation.
Herewith, taking into account the interest of the society, we publish the video footage of Aleksandre Lashkarava's movement, which has been obtained so far within the frames of the ongoing investigation.
Aleksandre Lashkarava was noticed with a moped yesterday at different locations in Tbilisi along with his friend, who is currently at the law enforcement agency.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs, at this stage refrains from preliminary versions, which is again in the interests of the family and the deceased.
We categorically call on everyone to refrain from early conclusions and wait for the investigation.
We would like to note once again that on July 5 on the fact of unlawful interference with Aleksandre Lashkarava’s professional activities under the threats of violence, persecution under violence, or threat of violence and group violence- 4 individuals have already been detained within the frames of the ongoing investigation.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs will gradually provide comprehensive information to the public regarding the details of the ongoing investigation.
