The Ministry of Internal Affairs, in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and with the support of the Embassy of Sweden in Georgia, held the conference dedicated to the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Aleksandre Darakhvelidze, the Democratic Governance Team Leader of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Gigi Bregadze, Adviser to the Prime Minister of Georgia on Human Rights Protection, Niko Tatulashvili, Chairman of the Committee on Human Rights Protection and Civil Integration of the Parliament of Georgia, Mikheil Sarjveladze and the Head of the Network of Centers for Civic Engagement (NCEE), Nina Khatiskatsi delivered the opening remarks.
At the conference, representatives of the Ministry summarized the activities carried out within the syetm of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the direction of protection of rights of persons with disabilities. The members of the Disability Advisory Group on the rights of persons with spoke about the activities of the advisory group and their involvement in the process of implementing the Ministry's Action Plan.
The persons with disabilities, along with the representatives of state agencies, international organizations and civil society that are working on the issues of persons with disabilities, attended the event.
It should be noted that, the Ministry of Internal Affairs with the support of international partners and in accordance with international and national legislation, implements systematic policies and targeted measures to improve the legal status of persons with disabilities. The Ministry ratified the relevant Action Plans for both 2021 and 2022.
In addition, Disability Advisory Group on PwDs established at the Ministry ensures its participation in the planning and implementation process of the policies carried out for the protection of rights of persons with disabilities within the system of the Ministry.
The project "Promoting the Effective Implementation of the Law of Georgia on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities" has been implemented since 2022 by the Network of Centers for Civic Engagement (NCCE) and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia with the support of Sweden and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
