Human Rights Protection and Investigation Quality Monitoring Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs held the working meeting with the Task Force on Ending Violence against Women and Girls (Task Force on EVAWG).
Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Aleksandre Darakhvelidze attended the working meeting and addressed the event participants.
Advisor to the Prime Minister of Georgia on Human Rights - Niko Tatulashvili and the Deputy Country Representative of the UN Women Georgia – Tamar Sabedashvili delivered the opening remarks.
The representatives of the Public Defender’s Office and international and non-governmental organizations working on domestic violence and violence against women took part in the working meeting.
Director of the Human Rights Protection and Investigation Quality Monitoring Department, Giorgi Osadze presented the summary report on the activities carried out by the Department in the fight against domestic violence and violence against women in recent years. Furthermore, the representatives of the Department reviewed the challenges identified during the proceedings of similar category cases and the ways to solve them.
Meeting attendees were informed about the activities planned by the Department within the 16-day global campaign on fight against violence against women and other thematic future plans.
The working meeting was held at the discretion of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in cooperation with the UN Women within the framework of the UN joint program on Gender Equality supported by Sweden.
UN Women has been cooperating with the Ministry of Internal Affairs for many years and carrying out projects addressing such essential issues as: fight against domestic violence and violence against women, gender equality, sexual harassment, etc.
