According to the decision of the Minister of Internal Affairs, fire-rescuers were awarded with service medals for "bravery" and high professionalism demonstrated in health and life-threatening conditions in the course of search-and-rescue operation held in Batumi due to the collapse of the residential building on October 8 of the current year.
The award ceremony was held at the Emergency Situations Response Base of the Emergency Situations Management Service in Tbilisi, which was attended by Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs- Ioseb Chelidze and Head of the Emergency Situations Management Service- Temur Mghebrishvili.
Participants of the event and firefighters observed a minute of silence in memory of the citizens who died as a result of the collapse of the residential building.
Ioseb Chelidze and Temur Mghebrishvili once again expressed gratitude to the firefighters for their work and awarded 10 of them with service medals on behalf of the Minister of Internal Affairs.
On October 8 of the current year, 426 firefighters were involved in the ongoing search-and-rescue operation for 29 hours due to the collapse of the residential building in Batumi. Under the decision of the Minister of Internal Affairs, all of the rescuers were appraised for their devoted service and fulfillment of especially difficult tasks.
