Within the frames of the work visit, the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs – Nino Tsatsiashvili held meeting with the Head of Directorate of Anti-discrimination of the Council of Europe – Jeroen Schokkenbroek.
The main purpose of the meeting was to provide the Head of the Anti-Discrimination Department and the Child Rights Unit of the same Department with information on the progress achieved by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the improved quality of investigation processes, as well as planning the future cooperation.
At the meeting Nino Tsatsiashvili spoke about the progress and improved statistics in the field of investigating cases of crimes related to discrimination. The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia presented to the meeting participants the new plans for the creation of a specialized juvenile unit, which will be directly responsible for the effective investigation of juvenile crimes as well as crimes committed against them.
Within the frames of the meeting, the representatives of the Council of Europe positively assessed progress and expressed interest in supporting the establishment of the new unit.
From the Georgian side, the meeting was also attended by Head of the Administration of the Georgian government- Natia Mezvrishvili, Prime Minister's Adviser on Gender and Human Rights issues and representative from the Ministry of Justice.
