The Emergency Situations Management Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs conducted a complex civil safety rescue exercise "Duruji 2024" in the city of Kvareli, Kakheti region. The aim of the training was to test the existing alarm warning system in Kvareli, to improve the response on emergency situations and coordinated actions, as well as to raise the awareness of the population.
The training was attended by Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs - Ioseb Chelidze, Head of Emergency Situations Management Service - Temur Mghebrishvili, Governor of Kakheti Region - Giorgi Aladashvili, National Guard Commander - Brigadier General, Roman Jokhadze, local government representatives, as well as European and American experts.
According to the scenario developed in advance by the Emergency Situations Management Service, as a result of heavy rainfall, there was a danger of landslides in the areas surrounding the the Duruji River bed, which may have caused the flooding of residential areas in the risk zone. In order to effectively manage the situation, a headquarters was created, where a crisis management plan was elaborated in order to minimize the risks. As a result of the coordinated work of the agencies, the population was informed in the shortest possible time and all relevant evacuation actions were implemented.
In the simulation exercise, along with the units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the National Guard of Georgia, employees of the National Environment Agency, representatives of local authorities, employees of the Center for Coordination of Emergency Situations and Emergency Assistance of the Ministry of Labor, Health and Social Protection for IDPs from the occupied territories of Georgia, representatives of the Red Cross of Georgia and local the population took part.
