The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Aleksandre Darakhvelidze, participated in the opening ceremony of the Council of Europe (CoE) Project – “Enhancing Human Rights Compliant Approaches in Law Enforcement Institutions in Georgia”.
In his welcoming remarks, Aleksandre Darakhvelidze underscored the steadfast commitment of the Ministry of Internal Affairs towards prioritizing the effective protection of minors' rights and enhancing investigators' capabilities in this regard. Additionally, he highlighted the significance of strengthening the institutional development of the MIA Academy and reaffirmed his keen interest in fostering close collaboration with the Council of Europe.
The event was also attended by the Head of Council of Europe Office in Georgia - Natalia Voutova, Representative of Cooperation in Police and Deprivation of Liberty (CPDL) Division of Council of Europe - Donche Boshkovski, Head of the Special Investigation Service - Koka Katsitadze and Head of Criminal Justice Department of the Public Defender - Gvantsa Chkhaidze.
The event aimed to endorse the scheduled activities and action plan outlined within the project, while also identifying future priority directions.
At the end of the meeting, Aleksandre Darakhvelidze expressed his gratitude to the Council of Europe for their unwavering support and invaluable contributions to the institutional development of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia.
The aforementioned project will be implemented in close collaboration with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia and other partner agencies. The primary objective of the project is to support the Government of Georgia in monitoring the effective and accountable execution of police activities.
