A two-day working meeting was held on the legislative package submitted to the Parliament of Georgia on the separation of investigative and prosecutorial activities authored by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, with the participation of the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Aleksandre Darakhvelidze and the Deputy Prosecutor General Natia Merebashvili.
The workshop was held within the framework of the EU-funded project - "Support the fight against organised crime in Georgia" and was attended by the representatives/experts of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Prosecutor General's Office, the Georgian Bar Association, the Legal Aid Service, international and non-governmental organizations.
The purpose of the workshop was to discuss the legislative package separating investigative and prosecutorial activities. A number of important views were expressed at the meeting regarding the legislative package.
The participants discussed such important issues, as: problems / challenges of the Criminal Procedure Code of Georgia; recommendations of the Venice Commission; project concept and purpose; planned changes in the Criminal Procedure Code, the strategy of the Ministry regarding the implementation of the planned changes, etc.
Project - "Support the Fight Against Organised Crime in Georgia" has been implemented since 2018 with the active involvement of the International Relations Department. It aims to support the activities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in combating organized crime.
