In the third reading, the Parliament of Georgia supported the package of legislative amendments prepared by the submission of the Government of Georgia and the authorship of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, by which changes are applied in the Law of Georgia and related laws "On State Compensation and State Academic Scholarship".
The package of legislative changes envisions the improvement of social guarantees for employees dismissed from law enforcement agencies, as well as for other persons receiving state compensation.
According to the amendments, for the first time since 2006, the maximum limit of pension (compensation) for all persons receiving compensation will be increased to 1000 GEL instead of the current limit of 560 GEL, while in the case of the death of a law enforcement officer while on duty, the amount of monthly pension for the family will reach 1200 GEL instead of 1000 GEL.
The compensation will also increase for former judges, former prosecutors, former parliamentarians and former employees of the parliamentary apparatus, former diplomats, former employees of civil aviation, former auditor general and his/her deputies.
According to the amendments, for the first time since 2013, the coefficients established by law are increased according to the following principle:
a) a person with a junior special rank (private - superior) - 5 GEL, instead of 2 GEL;
b) a person with an average special rank (junior lieutenant - captain) – 10 GEL, instead of 5 GEL;
c) a person with senior special rank (major - colonel - 15 GEL, instead of 10 GEL;
d) Person with the highest special rank (major general - colonel general) – 25 GEL instead of 15 GEL.
The compensation amount of civil aviation employee of Georgia is increasing according to the mentioned calculation principle as well.
In addition to the mentioned, in accordance with changes, the period of service without a rank in the municipal authorities during 2005-2015 will be additionally included in the service period for the fire-rescuers.
The changes will come into force on May 1, 2024.
It should be noted that as a result of the parliamentary discussions, the indexation issue was included in the draft law, according to which from January 1, 2025, the upper limit of compensation will be subject to indexation each year according to the Law on the State Budget of Georgia, just as it is provided for all other pension recipients.
