Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Mgebrishvili held a meeting through the video conference with heads of the regional police Departments and relevant police units.
Minister acquainted police employees with the special decree, elaborated for holding early and mid-term elections for local and executive bodies and Supreme Council of A/R of Achara on October 8, 2016 in free and safe environment.
According to the decree Ministry of Internal Affairs will carry out additional activities for holding elections in free and safe environment. In each region special groups, comprised of the regional police leadership will be formed to plan appropriate activities in their operational area for possible risks and its reasons as well as to provide risk assessment on the regular basis; to elaborate security plan and ensure effective and prompt response on the possible violations on the Election Day.
The decree is aimed at establishing common standards for the actions of police on the Election Day which was prompted by the legislative changes implemented in the recent period. Decree defines conditions for holding police activities during the Election Day at the polling stations and nearby area.
Decree also defines police training on the topic of their responsibilities on the Election Day.
Decree of the Minister has already been enacted.
