Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Mgebrishvili has opened “Millennium” forum, the project of General Secretariat of Interpol.
At the conference Minister of Internal Affairs addressed 58 delegates from 24 countries and acquainted them with results achieved in the field of international police cooperation and implemented projects. As Minister stated- “Our country has made its huge contribution in this project, as Georgian law enforcers have a rich experience in the fight against organized crime. Aim of today’s meeting is to share experience on transnational, Eurasian organized crime and to further enhance relations on the institutional level. I hope that these challenges, faced by the contemporary world, will be overcome with joint efforts and this meeting will also contribute to the fight against the organized crime”.
“Millenium” is the joint project of General Secretariat of Interpol and its member states which has been elaborated by the group of law enforcers from “G8”. The project is focused on transnational, Eurasian organized crime (TEOC).
In 2015, when the last meeting of the working group was held in Prague, General Secretariat of Interpol came up with an initiative to choose three leading members from the member states. Georgia expressed willingness to participate in a new initiative along with Germany and France and thus, became the leading member of project “Millennium”.
In the two-day conference, 58 delegates from General Secretariat of Interpol, Europol and member states of project “Millennium” (US, Great Britain, Latvia, Finland, Germany, Switzerland, Georgia, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Estonia, Sweden, Spain, Russian Federation, Czech Republic, Israel, Greece, Austria, France, Italy, Japan, Moldova, Canada, Belgium, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates) as well as attaches from France, Austria, Israel and Greece took part.
Within the frames of the conference work meetings will also be held to acquaint delegates with the success achieved in the fight against the so called “thieves in law” and organized crime.
