Mr. Giorgi Mghebrishvili paying an official visit to Stockholm met his colleague Mr. Anders Ygeman, the Minister of Interior of Sweden.
At the meeting the parties discussed the issues of cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of both countries.
Mr. Giorgi Mghebrishvili introduced to Mr. Anders Ygeman ongoing and planned reforms of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, including the formation of analysis based police and DNA bank; the parties also discussed the issue of deepening cooperation with Europol.
The Interior Ministers emphasized the importance of international police cooperation in the field of fights organized crime and criminals.
According to Anders Ygeman he welcomes intensive development of relations with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia. "As a result of cooperation, we will be able to overcome the challenges we face in the fight against crime. I am sure that this meeting will have concrete positive results, "- said the Swedish Minister. He also stressed that Sweden supports the process of European integration and Visa Liberalization of Georgia.
For his part, Mr. Giorgi Mghebrishvili focused on close police cooperation between Georgia and the EU Member States. According to Mr. Giorgi Mghebrishvili Georgia has already signed Agreement on Fight against Crime with 15 states among 28 EU states. In the near future the signature to the similar agreements with the other states, including Sweden is considered.
In addition, as Mr. Giorgi Mgebrishvili said the Ministry of Internal Affairs intends to send police attach to Stockholm. "In the countries where our Ministry sent police attaches, the number of crimes committed by the citizens of Georgia has significantly reduced. The result is clear to everyone. We confirm our readiness to deepen cooperation at all levels in order to detect as well as prevent offences. The most effective way for the mentioned is exchange of information and police cooperation ", - said the Minister.
Mr. Giorgi Mghebrishvili is the first Minister of Internal Affairs, who paid a working visit to Stockholm and met with his Swedish counterpart.
At the end of the meeting Mr. Giorgi Mghebrishvili invited Mr. Anders Ygeman to Georgia with an official visit.
