Mr. Giorgi Mghebrishvili, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia within the frams of a working visit had a meeting with Mr. Peter Beuth, the Interior Minister of the Federal Land of Hessen, in Wiesbaden.
At the meeting the parties discussed certain plans aimed of development of police cooperation between Georgia and Germany.
As the Interior Minister of the Federal Land of Hessen said he was extremely pleased with the decision of the Georgian side to strengthen partnership in law enforcement field with certain Federal Lands. "I was introduced to the reforms carried out in Georgia in recent years. The country's development and your attitude towards issues proves that Georgia developing in a democratic direction, and in this regard, you are on a high level. Thus, we are encouraged by the close cooperation with you. The fact that you are developing relations on the level of federal lands, means that you are aware of German federal system and understand the working process of internal security structures. From your part, it is a very correct decision, which is welcomed by us with great pleasure. We would like to express our readiness to further deepen police cooperation with Georgia, "- said Mr. Peter Beuth in his conversation with Mr. Giorgi Mghebrishvili.
In his turn, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgian familiarized his German counterpart with the successful law enforcement reforms implemented within the frames of visa liberalization and introduced future projects of the Ministry. Mr. Giorgi Mghebrishvili highlighted the productive activities of the police attaches of the MIA in Europe and talked about the necessity of development of international police cooperation for fight against global challenges. "We are working closely with Germany on the federal level, however, for achievement of more results, it is necessary, to strengthen partner relations with the law enforcement structures of certain federal lands and exactly for this reason I am here in Germany now", - said the Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia.
Mr. Giorgi Mghebrishvili was interested in working specifics of local law enforcers and structure of the law enforcement agencies. The German counterpart provided the Minister with the detailed information regarding the acting legislation, police activities and challenges existing in Hessen. Also, the parties talked about the issue of Georgian citizens staying in Germany for dishonest purposes and suspected in various criminal activities. According to Mr. Peter Beuth, the number of such citizens of Georgia is not large in Hessen, however, by his instruction, the local police closely cooperates with the Georgian side for final eradication of this problem.
Mr. Giorgi Mghebrishvili and Mr. Peter Beuth signed the “Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, the Interior Ministry of the Federal Land of Hessen”, which envisages development of partnership and police cooperation between the relevant agencies in various fields.
At the end of the meeting Mr. Giorgi Mghebrishvili invited the Interior Minister of the Federal land of Hessen with an official visit to Georgia.
