The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs - Aleksandre Darakhvelidze held a meeting with high-level representatives of international pre-election monitoring mission of National Democratic Institute (NDI).
During the meeting, parties discussed the issues relevant to the upcoming parliamentary elections and the importance of conducting the election process in a safe and free environment.
The members of the delegation emphasized that the police enjoys with the high degree of trust from the Georgian society. It was also noted that they have positive expectations in terms of conducting the upcoming elections in a safe and democratic environment.
Aleksandre Darakhvelidze put special emphasis on the implementation of measures undertaken with the purpose of ensuring public order and security during the pre-election period and on the Election Day. The Deputy Minister highlighted the importance of conducting the elections in a free, democratic and safe environment, and in this regard, the involvement of the employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the cooperation with relevant authorities.
In addition, Aleksandre Darakhvelidze provided the monitoring mission with detailed information on various important issues, such as: training of the employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to ensure the holding of elections in a free, democratic and safe environment; participation of the Ministry within Internal Affairs in the Interagency Commission for Free and Fair Elections; proactively informing the public about violations detected during the elections; active communication with international and local non-governmental organizations and diplomatic corps, etc.
At the end of the meeting, the deputy minister thanked the representatives of the delegation of the National Democratic Institute for their visit and expressed hope that the upcoming elections will be held in a peaceful, safe and democratic environment.
