The Minister of Internal Affairs, Vakhtang Gomelauri, held the final working meeting of the current year with the heads of police departments. First Deputy Minister - Shalva Bedoidze also attended the meeting with the directors of police departments.
The directors of the regional police departments provided the Minister with detailed information with regards to the police measures implemented in the regions, the situation in the field of the fight against crime and infrastructure projects.
Vakhtang Gomelauri outlined the number of crimes solved by each police department within the current year and noted that the number of certain types of crimes decreased this year, while the index of solved crimes increased.
"This year we have much better results. This was achieved thanks to you, your work and your staff. The crime solving index has increased noticeably, which is a very good trend in the first place. In different months, there was an increase and decrease of various crimes, statistics resemble to living organism, sometimes they increase, sometimes they decline, however, in total, they decreased, which a very positive aspect”- stated Vakhtang Gomelauri.
At the meeting, the Minister of Internal Affairs focused on the implemented and ongoing reforms, the infrastructure projects held throughout this year, the renewal of technical equipment, as well as the results of the fight against crime and the existing challenges in the direction of public safety.
Vakhtang Gomelauri discussed the existing international police cooperation with the heads of the departments and reviewed the prospects of enhancing the cooperation in the future.
The minister also discussed the infrastructure projects planned for next year with the heads of the police Departments and spoke about the 20% increase in wages for the employees of the ministry under the initiative of the head of the government. He also focused on the work and preventive measures necessary for the improvement of police activities.
Vakhtang Gomelauri expressed his gratitude towards colleagues for the fruitful activities performed throughout the year and stressed that complex measures in the direction of fighting crime will be actively continued in 2023.
