Candidate for the Minister of Internal Affairs - Vakhtang Gomelauri addressed the joint sitting of the Committees on Procedural Issues and Rules, Human Rights and Civil Integration, Defense, Security and Legal Affairs with a speech within the frames of confidence vote format.
At the meeting with the members of the Georgian Parliament, Vakhtang Gomelauri discussed the activities carried out by the Ministry of Internal Affairs in details as well as the events planned for the future. As the candidate for the Minister of Internal Affairs noted, the crime rate has decreased by 12 percent compared to the results of the last year as a result of the work of law enforcement officers, while in response to the existing challenges, the Agency continues the implementation of the reforms in various directions, including criminal police, patrol police and border protection.
The candidate for the Minister of Internal Affairs stressed that the improvement of human rights protection mechanisms through the reform process remains one of the most important priorities for the Ministry.
Vakhtang Gomelauri also noted that the Ministry will continue to pursue an uncompromising policy against drug dealers, active fight against the organized crime, the capacity building of the Ministry's structural units and improvement of the work conditions for the agency's staff.
At the Joint Sitting of the Committees on Procedural Issues and Rules, Human Rights and Civil Integration, Defense, Security and Legal Affairs, the composition of the Georgian government and government program presented to the Parliament by the candidate for the Prime Minister – Irakli Garibashvili has been approved by the Committee members and members of the parliament through voting.
