Today, during a protest rally in front of the legislative body, law enforcers detained 8 people under Article 173 of the Code of Administrative Offenses (disobedience to the lawful request of a law enforcement officer).
Despite numerous calls and warnings, the protesters did not obey the lawful request of the representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, continued illegal actions, after which they were arrested.
Patrol police representatives offered protesters several times an alternative place to set up a tent.
It is notable that the protesters had their tent set up near the legislative body for several months, which remained intact and police did not interfere.
As for the placement of a tent in front of the Parliament building, protesters are restricted from placing a tent in front of the legislative body in accordance with the “Law of Georgia on Police” with the purpose of ensuring public safety, rule of law, prevention and foiling of illegal actions.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs calls on the organizers and participants of the rally to maintain public order, refrain from extremely provocative actions, verbal abuse of police officers and follow the rightful demands of law enforcers.
Any violation of the law will be instantly foiled by police, in full compliance with the law.
