Vakhtang Gomelauri, the candidate for the position of the Minister of Internal Affairs, submitted a report to the Parliament in the format of the declaration of confidence in the government.
Vakhtang Gomelauri congratulated the Parliament members on their election as members of the legislative body of the 11th convocation of Georgia and wished them success in future careers.
In the legislative body, Vakhtang Gomelauri reviewed in details the reforms implemented within the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the future plans of the agency.
Among other important issues, the candidate for the Minister of Internal Affairs provided the parliament members with information on the criminal police reform implemented to boost the effectiveness of police activities, the development of Community Officers Institute, the activities carried out in the direction of the fight against organized crime, as well as international police cooperation, important legislative changes carried out under the authority of the Ministry, the significant increase of the salary of the law enforcement officers, on implemented and scheduled infrastructure projects in the Ministry.
In his speech, Vakhtang Gomelauri made a special emphasis on the trend of decreasing crime, as well as the unprecedentedly high rate of crime-solving index.
During his speech, Vakhtang Gomelauri also noted that the development of forensic capacities of the Ministry is in progress. According to him, the Ministry is actively working on the creation of DNA database, significantly increasing the quality of crime investigation.
The candidate for the position of the Minister of Internal Affairs also focused on the reforms carried out in the direction of capacity building and specialization of the employees of the Ministry.
At the end of the report, Vakhtang Gomelauri expressed gratitude towards the employees of the agency for protecting public order and citizens' safety.
At the joint meeting of the committees, the candidate for the position of the Minister of Internal Affairs, provided comprehensive answers to the questions raised by MPs.
Vakhtang Gomelauri also participated in Q&A format meeting with media representatives in the legislative body.
