The Director of the International Relations Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Mrs. Ekaterine Machavariani participated in the presentation of the third wave of information campaign on visa free travel. The presentation was held at the Information Center on NATO and EU.
At the presentation Mrs. Ekaterine Machavariani talked about the process of visa-free travel, the practice of cooperation with the EU and Schengen member states and plans to deepen existing cooperation. As she noted, the visit of the Minister of Internal Affairs to EUROPOL is planned to take place in March, where two important memorandums will be signed. Based on these documents, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia will present a liaison officer in EUROPOL and a secure information exchange channel will be established, which will ensure the exchange of information with EU partner countries. According to Mrs. Ekaterine Machavariani, Georgia successfully fulfills the Agreement on the readmission of persons residing without authorization, which is also noted in the assessments of partner countries of Georgia.
The major goal of the third wave of information campaign is to remind the society once again the rules of visa-free travel and prevent their violations as well as to prevent the facts of abuse of asylum request procedures.
It should be noted that the Ministry of Internal Affairs has been implementing effective cooperation with the EU countries since 2013. The Georgian Police Attachs are deployed in eight EU countries and on the basis of relevant agreements the Police cooperates with 17 EU Member States in the field of fight against international organized crime.
