Temur Mghebrishvili, the head of Emergency Situations Management Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, made a summary comment to the media regarding the ongoing events and rescue measures in the disaster area at the end of the day and stated that intensive search operations in the disaster zona are in progress at the moment.
According to him, at the meeting held with the Prime Minister, additional instructions were defined, in terms of mobilization of additional forces for tomorrow.
"up to 200 servicemen of the Ministry of Defense will be additionally involved. Heavy machinery is also being added. Today, throughout the day, equipment has been relocated to the right side of the river and some work is being accomplished to get closer to specific locations. As you know, today the Prime Minister attended an emergency meeting, where additional tasks were defined, which implies the mobilization of additional forces for tomorrow. Additionally, up to 200 employees of the Ministry of Defense will be involved. Heavy equipment is also added. Today, during the day, equipment has been moved to the right side of the river and some work is being accomplished to get closer to specific locations. herewith, we confirm the death of 11 people, whose bodies were recovered from the disaster area and transferred for forensic examination. Intensive search operations continue at this moment. Today, as you know, we met with family members of people who are out of reach. We explained to them in detail what kind of work is conducted. In addition, we suggested to them to fly over the disaster-affected area by means of a helicopter, so that they could see for themselves in what conditions we have to carry out rescue work, on which they agreed" – noted Temur Mghebrishvili.
