The head of the Emergency Situations Management Service - Temur Mgebrishvili made a summary comment to the media regarding the ongoing rescue operation in the disaster zone. As Temur Mgebrishvili noted, the firemen and rescuers are carrying out rescue measures in a round the clock regime. According to him, rescuers worked at 8 locations today, and the work will continue throughout the night at a specific location where fragments of various objects were detected.
The head of Emergency Situations Management Service expressed profound sorrow over the death of Mirian Chelidze, the investigator of the investigation unit of the Ambrolauri police division, and expressed his condolences to the family, relatives and employees of the late officer.
"First of all, I would like to take this opportunity to express my condolences to the family of our deceased police officer who died unexpectedly this evening. Despite the efforts of doctors, they could not save him who died of a sudden cardiac arrest. As for the search operation, it is actively in progress. Today, about two hours ago, we started works on a new location, where excavation began. We found fragments of a vehicle, which became the reason to launch search in the area. This particular perimeter has been studied and the information that was available before the disaster gives us a valid reason that it might have certain results, so to speak, from the search point of view. Today we worked at 8 locations. Search operations were held. As for the roads, in both directions, the roads have actually been completed. Near mineral waters area, rehabilitation of the bridge has started and we hope that it will be completed tomorrow. In fact, the river has already been returned in its bed at the moment, and excavation works are ongoing at the same time. Unfortunately, the data has not changed today and remains the same. The plan for the night is to continue works in that specific location, even today certain fragments of family items, human clothes were found, and search works are actively underway at the same location," – noted Temur Mghebrishvili.
Temur Mgebrishvili also commented on those helicopters, the procurement procedures of which have already been started by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. As Mgebrishvili mentioned, as a result of active communication with the supplying company, it was decided that the country will receive one new rescue helicopter in December of the current year.
"Once again I would like to emphasize that whatever the helicopter was supposed to do and whatever measures we had to perform with the help of the helicopter, I once again declare with full responsibility that all measures were carried out by 100 percent. In addition, I would like to add that those helicopters the procurement procedures of which have already started, with active communication between the supplying company and the country, it has already been agreed to deliver one new helicopter at the end of the year, approximately in December. This issue will be more or less resolved," - Temur Mghebrishvili said.
The head of the Emergency Situations Management Service provided answers to the question posed by journalists on the working conditions of firefighters. According to him, the uniform has been adjusted, special equipment and car fleet updated, and infrastructure projects are actively being implemented.
"The salary of a rescuer is up to 1500 GEL. In addition, the social package of lifeguards has been improved. The issue of nutrition, uniform, clothing, special equipment was arranged. 10 new fire trucks have already been purchased and should be delivered by the supplier at the end of the year. In addition, infrastructural projects - at this stage, two buildings are already being completed and three more new buildings are under construction. Considering the fact that our hero rescuers are doing everything at their own risk and health I think it is a little out of place to discuss their salary. "Whatever the compensation is, what needs to be done is to be done by our service - the Ministry of Internal Affairs," - noted Temur Mghebrishvili.
Police units, fire-rescuers of Emergency Situations Management Service, K-9 unit experts, border police helicopters, drones and special equipment are involved in the search operation. Also, employees of the Ministry of Defense and the Department of Roads of the Ministry of Infrastructure are working in the disaster zone as well.
