At the Ministry of Internal Affairs first meeting of interagency coordination board for the fight against chemical, biological, radioactive and nuclear hazards was held. Meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Levan Izoria, which was attended by the representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, international organizations, US embassy and other state agencies of the country.
According to the decision of the Georgian government joint policy will be elaborated for the fight against chemical, biological, radioactive and nuclear hazards, in order to consolidate efforts against relevant hazards and challenges. With this aim, under the chairmanship of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, national strategy for reduction of CBRN hazards will be elaborated. For effective implementation, under the decree N201 adopted by the Georgian government on February 2014 the above mentioned inter-agency board was created. Duties of the board include renewal of the national CBRN strategy, elaboration of strategic action plan, renewal and implementation of the action plan and coordination of CNRN interagency board activities.
At the meeting the action plan was discussed and schedule for elaborating was determined as well as creation of relevant thematic working groups. Members of the board got familiarized with presentations of Tbilisi Regional Secretariat of the (CBRN) Risk Mitigation Centers of Excellence and received information on CBRN Science and Results Management congress, which is scheduled to be held in Tbilisi in June of the current year.
