The officers of Emergency Situations Management Agency along with Border Police pilots, as a result of jointly held successful rescue operation, 5 foreign tourists were rescued.
Operative response center 112 received report that due to the heavy raining and increased level of the river water, 5 tourists were unable to continue with their route and needed help. 5 out of 17 tourists were lost.
As soon as the report was received rescuers departed to the site immediately. Due to difficult relief and climatic conditions, transportation became impossible and rescuers continued to search for missing tourists on foot.
Upon the weather improvement, the MIA Border Police helicopter was involved in the rescue operation.
Rescuers were able to communicate with tourists and determine their exact location.
As a result of successful joint rescue operations, the MIA employees took all five foreign tourists to the safe place. Currently they are in Tbilisi together with other members of the group and their lives are not in danger.
Rescuers of Dusheti Fire and Rescue Division found 4 more foreign tourists in the vicinity of Shatili, who were lost and could not get back. Now they are in a safe place at the moment.
The MIA Border Police helicopters have conducted several flights to Shatili today and up to 80 tourists were transported to Barisakho.
