Minister of Internal Affairs Aleksandre Tchikaidze and other officials of the Ministry are visiting Dariali gorge and getting familiarized with recent situation on the ground. Employees of MIA Emergency Situations Management Department are holding rescue operation on the site of the disaster. MIA rescuers evacuated up to 70 people from the monastery located in the gorge. At this moment rescued people are being transported by the helicopter.
MIA Emergency Situations Management Department received report on the land slide late at night on August 20. The land slide which approached Tergi River from Devdoraki glacier changed the river bed and thus, the river started to flow along the highway.
At this moment rescue teams of MIA Emergency Situations Management Department are at the site. Various heavy machinery is mobilized in the zone of disaster and rescue operation is underway. They conduct rescue operation at both entrances of the tunnel. Entire personnel of of Darialhes and Customs have been evacuated by the MIA rescuers.
