The practical training sessions on reporting issues related to medical examination of detained persons were led by the consultants of European Council for the doctors working in Temporary Detention Isolators.
The MIA Academy hosted the training within the “Human and Healthcare in Prisons and other closed Institutions in Georgia II” project initiated and organized by the European Union and European Council.
The Head of the CoE Georgia Office Team, Mr. Cristian Urse, with the rector of the MIA Academy Givi Mikanadze and director of Temporary Detention Isolator Department Ucha Papuashvili opened the meeting.
Within the scope of the training, presentations were made on the following topics: how to document the injuries inflicted upon the alleged torture and other cruel, inhumane and degrading treatment or punishment of prisoners according to the recently approved instructions for the doctors, how to fill the forms, what are the main challenges while filling in the forms, interpretation of the results of the medical examination, how to ascertain the degree of compliance. The participants were also instructed on how to take pictures of the injuries.
The aim of the training was to increase qualification of the doctors working in the temporary detention isolators of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia.
