Ministry of Internal Affairs, within the frames of “Facilitation of MIA in the Fight against Domestic Violence” project held two-day media-seminar- “Covering Domestic Violence, Georgian Reality and International Experience” in Borjomi for the journalists. The training was implemented with the support of the European Union.
Opening of the seminar was attended by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia Giorgi Mgebrishvili.
“We should all unite to fight domestic violence. Covering of such a topic requires in-depth knowledge and comprehension. This seminar is important for me, to better inform society on the mentioned issue and make prevention. This is a specific type of crime and requires involvement and responsible approach from the side of society and journalists as well- stated Minister of Internal Affairs while having conversation with the participants of the seminar.
The training was aimed to acquaint journalists working on domestic violence, with international standards and regulations on how to cover the mentioned issue.
At the training representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs made presentations on domestic violence, combating and prevention methods. Participants of the seminar received detailed information on various types of violence, made situational and individual exercises on assessment of the fact of violence. At the training particular examples of the cases of domestic violence were discussed as well as ways of eradication of such facts and inaccuracies while covering domestic violence.
MIA representatives discussed media-strategy while covering the case of domestic violence as well as role of media in the fight against such crime.
Maka Peradze, head Project Management Division of MIA International Relations Department acquainted journalists with projects and progress achieved with regards to the fight against domestic violence and its prevention.
At the end of the seminar participants of the seminar received memorable gifts specially made for “Power to Trust” campaign, launched against the domestic violence.
