In Ozurgeti Center for Civic Engagement the meeting between representatives of civil society and the Ministry of Internal Affairs was held. Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs along with the representatives of MIA Administration and General Inspection provided civilians with comprehensive information on crime prevention, fight against crime, law supremacy, protection of human rights, activities held by the Ministry as well as implemented and scheduled activities within the frames of “Safe City” project and provided answers to all questions.
Meeting lasted for two hours and was attended by representatives of local non-governmental organizations, media and municipal officials.
Within the frames of the project meetings with civil society will be held in nine cities which will facilitate their participation in the governance process and boost the level of awareness on activities held by the Ministry as well as crime prevention and due response on topical issues of the subject.
Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs met pupils in Ozurgeti at “Young Pedagogues’ Union” office and held discussion. Pupils presented their projects and assumptions on civic activism and regional development.
“Under the initiative of the Minister of Internal Affairs, our Ministry launched new campaign and project “Safe City” within the frames of which we will hold meetings with civil society in 10 cities of the country. Today the first meeting was held in Ozurgeti at “Center for Civic Engagement” which is funded by the US government and I think that meeting turned out to be very interesting. We were able to deliver messages and information of the Ministry to the local community and on the other hand, to provide answers for all questions as well as point out those problems which exist in this town and region in general. The meeting was very constructive and fruitful; everyone was able to express his or her opinion. Media representatives noted that work environment has much improved, while civilians made us more motivated to continue holding these meetings more actively. Obviously, this is a part of accountability towards the civic society. Our Ministry will be one of the leading agencies in terms of being accountable and transparent. There should be no questions left and answers provided”-stated Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Archil Talakvadze.
