The Ninth Meeting of State Commission Supporting Suppression of Distributing New Psychoactive Substances was held at the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia. The Commission is composed of the representatives from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Affairs and Ministry of Finance of Georgia. The State Commission meets every month and conducts permanent monitoring over the implementation of relevant legislation and over the challenges related to new psychoactive substances in Georgia.
At the Meeting the agencies, within the scope of their competences, presented new information on situation related to illicit traffic in new psychoactive substances existing in the country and made relevant assessments. It was stated at the Meeting that, similar to the previous months, implementation of the legislation was being conducted effectively and a clear tendency of decreasing was being continuously detected. According to the statistical data presented by Forensic Main Division of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, more than 90% decrease in consuming new psychoactive substances has been identified in the period of June-December of 2014, in comparison to the similar period of 2013.
On the basis of the achieved progress members of commission highlighted the significance of close inter-agency cooperation in fight against illicit traffic in NPS and the success of the balanced drug policy carried out by the State.
