Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Mghebrishvili met with the chairman of Japan's largest foundation-“Nippon”, Iohei Sasakawa, who is on an official visit to Georgia. One of the main directions of the foundation is maritime sector development.
Giorgi Mghebrishvili thanked the Iohei Sasakawa for inviting Georgian Coast Guard representatives in Coast Guard Global Summit in Tokyo.
"This was a unique opportunity. We met representatives of maritime security agencies from the 30 states to discuss challenges faced by the contemporary world. As you know, border police is one of the agencies responsible for the maritime security. Accordingly, we attach special importance to the development of coastal defense capabilities of Georgia. For this purpose, we are actively cooperating with European and American partners to attract additional resources”-stated Minister of Internal Affairs.
At the meeting Giorgi Mgebrishvili introduced Iohei Sasakawa to the reforms and planned projects implemented by MIA Border Police. Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia provided the guest with detailed information about the Joint Maritime Operations Center of Georgia, which is one of the most unique facilities in the mentioned sphere. The center unites 11 different state agencies involved in the Maritime Security, Defense and Security Component.
"Our goal is to operate Maritime Joint Operations Center, not only on the national level, but to convert it into an international hub for accumulation, analysis and information sharing. We are deeply convinced that we have to fight common challenges with united forces. Therefore, we are ready to share information about maritime security with our partners, "stated Giorgi Mgebrishvili.
The sides discussed future cooperation issues. Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia expressed willingness to cooperate with "Nipon" foundation in terms of coast guard institutional development.
