Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Mgebrishvili continues official visit to the United States, within the frames of which he met the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation James Comey.
Minister thanked the US side for the provided assistance throughout the years and cooperation. According to him Georgia attaches huge importance to the close cooperation with the United States in the fight against organized crime and terrorism.
The US side has expressed eagerness for supporting and deepening cooperation. James Comey also expressed eagerness to assist MIA Forensic Service personnel and investigators in re-training and qualification boosting. Sides also discussed importance of the exchange of information on the fight against crime and prevention of the offences.
Minister noted that US Federal Bureau of Investigation has a great knowledge and experience in the fight against all types of the organized crime and therefore, it is important for Georgia to be supported by the partner country, to share knowledge, best practice and receive recommendations.
At the meeting with James Comey Minister reviewed recently implemented reforms within the Ministry. Giorgi Mgebrishvili noted that a significant steps towards developing the international police cooperation have been made on legislative and institutional levels. Sides have also discussed progress achieved through the cooperation and reviewed future plans.
