Under the initiative of the Minister of Internal Affairs program on traffic safety was launched. In his opening speech Minister noted that program is tailored on needs existing in reality and aimed on improving the quality of the traffic safety, to protect citizens’ lives and prevent road accidents.
The following components are included in the campaign: improving administration against the main causes of the road accidents (wrong maneuvering, exceeding the speed limit and drunk driving); improving monitoring on the public transport; the country's current fleet renewal incentives; introduction of the mobile speed radars; neutralization of the so called “black spots” on roads and in towns; restriction of right-wheel vehicle imports from march, 2016; making legislation more strict to ensure pedestrians’ safety; introduction of the scoring system on violation of the traffic rules and bringing the driver’s license test into the real movement.
The draft law is aimed at receiving results in a short period of time, while in the long run it is aimed at improving road safety standards and further development of the mentioned field.
Besides legislative changes, new program also includes large-scale campaign the goal of which is to raise awareness of the society in the field of traffic safety. At the event video made for the campaign, slogan and logo was presented. Logo of the campaign includes heart-shaped emblem covered with road signs. “First of all I’m launching this program for the sake of the security of the future generation. I want to familiarize them with truth which implies that law abiding citizen is the basis for the civilized and developed state”- note Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Mgebrishvili. Presentation was attended by the members of government, representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Georgia and non-governmental organizations.
