The Government of Georgia has approved the rules prepared under the initiative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, according to which the regulations related to the circulation of pneumatic weapons have been tightened.
Carrying of a pneumatic weapon without registration was prohibited by a relevant government decree.
According to the new regulations, a hunting or sport pneumatic weapon barrel length of which is more than 30 cm or the total length of the weapon exceeds 60 cm is subject to registration by the Service Agency of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia. It is also not allowed to use projectiles designed for pneumatic weapons with technical characteristics exceeding 4.5 mm caliber.
According to the decree of the Government of Georgia, electro-pneumatic weapons (air soft) and pneumatic weapons (paint balls) which are used for throwing paints are not subject to registration.
In addition, by the order of the Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia, the rules for storing and carrying pneumatic weapons have been defined.
In particular:
- A person entitled to carry a pneumatic weapon is obliged to have a pneumatic weapon registration certificate with him / her along with ID documents, while carrying a weapon;
- The citizen is obliged to keep the pneumatic weapon in such manner as to ensure safety and exclude the availability of the weapon to others;
- The pneumatic weapon must be stored in a locked storeroom and/or the weapon must have a safety lock attached;
- Carrying a pneumatic weapon is allowed only in a special case, in a relaxed possition, separated from the projectiles;
- The above-mentioned rule of carrying does not apply to specially designated places (shooting range, places allowed for hunting, the area within a radius of 500 meters from the settlement).
The Code of Administrative Offenses of Georgia defines criminal responsibility for pneumatic weapons-related offenses.
In particular:
- Carrying a pneumatic weapon without registration will result in a fine of 200 GEL;
- Violation of the rules of carrying a pneumatic weapon results in a fine of 300 GEL;
- Shooting from a pneumatic weapon in a populated area results in a fine of 500 GEL;
- Purchasing, storing, carrying, importing or exporting pneumatic weapons to Georgia, which are not allowed in civil circulation, results in a fine of 500 GEL.
All of the above listed offenses will result in the confiscation of the pneumatic weapon.
