On January 15, 2016 Tbilisi Detectives Division of Tbilisi Police Department has started investigation regarding illegal restriction of freedom (article 143, I part of the Criminal Code) of Vakhtang Kiria -prosecutor at Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti prosecutor’s office.
Investigation established that on January 13 at 16:15 Vakhtang Kiria left home and for the several days his whereabouts were unknown to the family members. The mobile phone was turned off, the vehicle was not found and Vakhtang Kiria was unreachable.
As a result of investigative and operative-searching activities law enforcers seized the mobile phone of Kiria in Rustavi, which was disposed there for concealing the traces of crime. Law enforcers also established the final route of Vakhtang Kiria, which appeared to be leading to Vazha-Pshavela Avenue, Tbilisi.
For summing up the information at hand and for establishing the place of crime, police checked the nearby territory and interviewed residents.
On January 16, as a result of investigative and operative-searching activities the body of Vakhtang Kiria was found in one of the apartments located in Tbilisi, Vazha-Pshavela Avenue, district VII, building 24. On the body of the deceased prosecutor a number of injuries were found inflicted with a sharp object. At the place of crime signs of the attempted coverage of crime were visible. In particular: for concealing the traces of blood in the bathroom, special appliance was installed for lifting the body while on the body of the deceased prosecutor, traces characteristic for the initial phase of body disintegration were visible. The electric saw was also found at the place with a blood spots on it as well as a big sized roller bag needed for moving large objects.
As soon as the mentioned objects were found the case was classified as the premeditated murder in accordance with the article 108.
As a result of investigative activities and analyzing the operative information it was ascertained that apartment where the body of Vakhtang Kiria was found had been rented by Bidzina Kutchava (DoB 1962). It was also established that special appliances were also purchased several days earlier by Kuchava at Open market Eliava.
Considering the mentioned facts, investigation started conducting active measures to obtain additional evidences as well as in order to establish the whereabouts of Bidzina Kuchava, as there were high possibilities from his side to conceal the traces of crime. All police including regional and patrol units were sent information on Kutchava.
In the course of conducting special measures operative information was received that Kutchava along with two friends was moving from Saburtalo to Ortachala by Mercedes made vehicle. Several minutes later the vehicle was requested to stop by patrol and criminal police crews. As soon as Kutchava saw the law enforcers he made a single shot in head area with a pistol registered on his name, due to which he died at the site.
While searching the clothes of Kutchava the technical passport of Vakhtang Kiria’s vehicle was found which was stained supposedly with Kiria’s blood as well as gloves, three mobile phones and etc.
Investigation established Vakhtang Kiria and Bidzina Kuchava were relatives and had rather close relations. It was also established that murder case of Vakhtang Kiria is not linked to his professional activities.
For obtaining biological and other evidences and establishing the truth, investigation is in progress. On further results of investigation citizens will be informed later.
