In September of the current year, under the initiative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Stolen and Lost Travel Documents (SLTD) data base of General Secretariat of Interpol was installed at Georgian border checkpoints. In the mentioned data base information on lost passports and travel documents of Georgian citizens is included. After launching the Stolen and Lost Travel Documents data base number of attempts to cross Georgian state border with overdue or canceled travel documents, which was foiled by the officers of Patrol Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Such travel documents will be deprived form their owners and handed to the relevant agency of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia. Citizens with such documents will not be allowed to cross Georgian state border.
It is notable that Stolen and Lost Travel Documents (SLTD) data base of General Secretariat of Interpol is launched in each member state of Interpol, thus similar problem may be faced by the Georgian citizens while crossing foreign country’s state border.
Ministry of Internal Affairs would like to call on each Georgian citizen with overdue of canceled passports to abstain from traveling with such documents and aaddress relevant service of the Ministry of Justice in order to solve issues connected with overdue of canceled travel documents.
