In order to inform the public, we would like to clarify what is defined by the draft amendments to the law "On Police".
As you are aware, the police consist of different units, including militarized units, with different functions, which obviously require different rules and specifics of admission for each different unit.
We would like to clarity that people with military rank serve in militarized units of the police, where a different regime of service is in effect. In addition to the mentioned, militarized personnel are accepted without competition.
However, it should be noted that from January 1, 2025, military service will exist only in the Ministry of Defense of Georgia, therefore, starting from January 1, 2025, the appointments with a military ranks will not be possible at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which leads to the transition of militarized units to police rules and subjecting them to a police competition.
Therefore, the planned amendments to the Law "On Police" envision the modification of certain rules for accepting service in the police and establishing a different rule for accepting the positions related to the militarized regime.
Acceptance/appointment in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, of course, assumes the fulfillment of the established criteria. In particular, a citizen of Georgia from the age of 18, who speaks the state language, meets the requirements established by the legislation of Georgia, and who is able to perform the assigned functions in accordance with his personal and work-related qualities, education, health condition and physical training, will be accepted/appointed on the position provided for by the Ministry.
All these circumstances will be checked during the recruitment process. A candidate failing to meet the requirements of education, physical training, and health status established for the relevant position will not be considered eligible.
Additionally, we clarify that the mentioned change will not affect the employees of the patrol police department, investigators, law enforcement officers and employees performing administrative functions.
