The officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs as a result of operative and investigative activities carried out on February 5-17 in Svaneti, Kakheti, Adjara, Samtskhe-Javakheti, Samegrelo and Tbilisi seized: automatic firearm "Kalashnikov", 2 small-caliber rifles, 6 pistols, 3 hunting guns, 2 s.c. “Obrezs”, 602 combat cartridges of different caliber and 6 cartridge-clips. 15 persons were given to criminal responsibility for the illegal purchase, keeping and carrying of firearms and ammunition.
The investigation is in progress on the facts of illegal purchase, keeping and carrying of firearms and ammunition by part 2 and 3 of article 236 of the Criminal Code of Georgia. The crime committed envisages imprisonment from 4 to 6 years in length.
In Samtskhe-Javakheti the citizens voluntarily handed over to the police various types of firearms, explosive substances, explosive devices and ammunition. In total the citizens handed over: 3 hunting rifles, 19 hand grenades, 3 cartridge-clips of submachine gun, 258 cartridges of various weapons and one anti-tank mine. According to the Criminal Procedure Code of Georgia the above-mentioned individuals shall be exempted from criminal responsibility.
